Why do people bother answering questions that the questioner cannot be bothered to answer for themselves?

Why do people do anything? There are 6.7 billion people on the planet, so the reasons are likely to be equally as astronomical in number. To ask "WHY?" about anything is to ultimately question the purpose of existence.
